Volleyball sweeps Dixie State in three

Saturday afternoon, the lady Cougars swept Dixie State in a 3-0 (25-13, 25-22, 25-18) victory, continuing their six-game winning streak.

Junior undeclared major Jackie Landers, also known as “The Hammer,” lived up to her name as she put away 15 kills. A fast pace was set from the beginning as she made four kills on her first four swings of the game.

Additionally, the third year veteran and team’s lead hitter contributed 10 digs for a double- double, making APU’s defense hard for Dixie State to break through.

With a consistent game played both offensively and defensively, the Cougars kept the Red Storm at bay by remaining focused throughout the match.

“We played very well,” head coach Chris Keife said. “From start to finish, we did a great job maintaining consistency the whole way through the match.”

With a talented young roster this year, the playing of the new members of the team has no doubt attributed to the Cougar’s success this season.

APU’s freshman undeclared major and outside hitter Joy Reinke had 13 kills and seven digs, while freshman undeclared major and libero Ashley Swatek had a team high of 13 digs and six assists.

Freshman undeclared major Ashley Vander Tuig had five blocks and an impressive .500 attack percentage on nine kills.

On Oct. 30 they also beat Point Loma 3-2.

Today, the Cougars will face San Diego Christian.
