Bump, Set, Spike APU Style

Saturday afternoon March 16. 13 teams came together at the Dillion Recreational Complex to compete in a sand volleyball tournament put on by Communiversity.

From 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., teams battled it out for championship tanks sponsored by Nutrishop Glendora.

Teams got pretty creative with their nicknames, from “To Kill a Blocking Nerd” and the “Ron Burgundies??” (question marks included) to the “Orange Mocha Frappuccinos.” The winners of the tournament? “Rip It.”

Various DJs provided live music, and friends and fans cheered and enjoyed the brilliant sunlight while others wondered why they forgot sunscreen, leaving the event a little crispier than they came.

“The tournament really was a blast,” sophomore Jedidiah Roberson said.

Roberson’s team “To Kill a Blocking Nerd” made the finals but lost in two sets.

“Its great to see Communiversity putting on events like this with sponsors and free stuff. Overall, a great use of a warm Saturday,” Roberson said.

Players, regardless of their team’s finishing rank, walked away from the tournament with a free tank top and a giftcard to Nutrishop Glendora as well as a free Yogurtland coupon. The winners, in addition to the other prizes and special championship tanks, also won multiple giftcards.

With softball about to start and soccer fully underway, intramural season is heating up.
