Season Ends for the Cougars

Unfortunately for Azusa Pacific University the basketball season is over. The men’s team lost on Wednesday to Fresno Pacific in a hard fought battle 109-105. And the women’s team fell the the Lancers of Cal Baptist 64-53 on Thursday for the third time on the season.

For the men’s team redshirt freshman forward Sharif Watson had a career night tossing in 24 points and nabbing 14 rebounds.

Sophomore guard Troy Leaf also had 24 points on the night himself, keeping pace with his season leading totals in the points per game department.

The women’s team had a rough second half playing away at the Lancer’s home court. The Cougar’s only made five second half field goals and struggled keeping the ball all night coughing up 22 turnovers.

Both teams missed out on a chance to compete at the NCCAA National Championships by losing in these Western Regional Finals.

Currently the Pac West Men’s Basketball Conference Championship is being hosted by APU Athletics in the Felix Event Center, though the Cougar’s were not given a bid because they are still in their probationary status in NCAA Div. II.
