Senior runningback Terrell Watson has been a standout player ever since he began playing football for APU in 2011 as a freshman. Now, in his senior year, he’s continuing to shatter school records as he nears the end of his collegiate playing experience.
In his freshman year, he led the team’s running backs in scoring, had 697 yards and two 100-yard rushing games. He ended the season by scoring in each of the last six games and had multiple touchdowns in four consecutive games.
As a sophomore, he rushed for 1,094 yards with 11 touchdowns and five 100-yard games. His season-high rushing game was 214 yards against Dixie State. He had four touchdowns and 379 yards in the last two games alone. He was also named to the All-Great Northwest Athletic Conference first team.
Watson’s junior year was filled with many awards and honors, including GNAC Offensive Player of the Year. He had 1,812 yards and scored 23 touchdowns, breaking school records in yardage and TDs. He had a 302-yard game against Simon Fraser with five touchdowns. He also had TDs in 11 of 12 games.
After winning the GNAC championship last year, Watson gets to lead the team in its first season of NCAA Division II full membership. He’s already rushed for 881 yards with nine touchdowns and continues to break team records previously held by Christian Okoye (’86.)
The rest of the season should see more success for Watson as he leads the team toward a GNAC championship run.
