Men’s soccer takes 2 OT victory over CBU; women fall short

Men’s and women’s soccer traveled to PacWest rival California Baptist Saturday, marking the APU teams’ last road matches of the regular season. The Cougars will host Academy of Art on Oct. 30 in the first of a three-contest home stand.

Women’s Soccer

California Baptist snapped Azusa Pacific’s winning streak at five on Saturday with a 1-0 win.

Lindsey Vesling scored the match’s lone goal in the 42nd minute off an assist from Jasmine Stokes. The Cougars could not find an equalizer in the remaining 48 minutes of regulation.

Men’s Soccer

Azusa Pacific took a 3-2 double-overtime victory over California Baptist.

Jeromy Gurule put the Lancers on the scoreboard in the 22nd minute, scoring off a rebound from 14 yards out. The Cougars found two goals in the 51st and 57th minutes from sophomore midfielders Colton Lamb and Luke Ackermann. Lamb got his off a penalty kick while Ackermann scored off an assist from junior forward Keyran Kelly for his fourth goal of the season.

CBU tied the contest in the 87th minute, forcing the match into overtime play, during which the Cougars found their golden goal from Ackermann in the 109th minute.
