Azusa Pacific dropped a three-set match to Dixie State at the Felix Event Center Saturday afternoon (25-23, 25-21, 25-21).
The Cougars opened the first set on top, leading 12-5 until the Red Storm put together a 13-6 rally to knot the score at 18-18. Dixie State eventually took the two-point set win.
Despite cutting the deficit to 13-15 midway through, the Storm maintained the lead the entirety of the second set.
Azusa Pacific led in the third set 12-7 until Dixie State went 5-0 to tie it and again pulled away, sealing the three-set sweep.
Junior outside hitter Mattie Shelford led APU’s offensive efforts with 10 kills. Junior setters Jaden Louie and Tristan Racich combined for 35 assists in the match. Defensively, junior Kristina Kam recorded 14 digs.
APU hasn’t won a set since falling 3-2 to Hawaii Pacific Oct. 17.
With the loss, the Cougars fall to 7-9 in PacWest play. Five home matches will wrap up the team’s regular season schedule, beginning with Chaminade Nov. 4.
